Energetics - 1st law, heat, work, internal energy, enthalpy, heat capacity. Entropy and Free Energy - Carnot cycle, 2nd law, entropy, free energy and work functions, 3rd law, equations of state. Changes of State - phases, components, degrees of freedom, phase rule, simple phase diagrams; Solutions - integral and partial molar quantities, active co-efficient, ideal and non-ideal solutions Gibbs-Duhem equation. Chemical Affinity - equilibrium, equilibrium constant, activities and standard states, equilibria of various types of systems. Electrochemistry - free energy, entropy and enthalpy of reversible cells, ionic activities and activity of co-efficients, Nernst equation.
